At least 50 school children are feared trapped close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir after Pakistani troops resorted to indiscriminate firing targeting two schools located in the vicinity. According to reports, efforts by Army jawans are underway to evacuate the kids safely from the schools.
The Pakistani Army violated ceasefire by shelling mortars and firing at around 1:45pm. The firing was reported at a time when schools were about to let the children leave for the day.
The Indian jawans strongly retaliated to the firing, an Army spokesperson said. Following the reports of firing in the region, the local administration immediately sounded an alert and asked schools not to allow kids to go out of campus and wait for security personnel. Field officers have been deputed for rescue and bullet-proof vehicles have been pressed into operation.
A local said that 80 per cent kids in these schools come from the border region and schools are shut most of the time due to the unrest. The monsoon has made it tougher for people to shift to a safer place.
The Pakistani troops also violated ceasefire in Poonch district of the border state today.
Yesterday, an Army jawan and a nine-year-old girl were killed while four persons injured in heavy firing and mortar shelling by the Pakistan Army along the LoC in Poonch, Rajouri and Baramulla districts.
