31 workers convicted, 117 acquitted for violence at Maruti’s Manesar plant in 2012

A local court here today convicted 31 workers and acquitted 117 in connection with a case of violence at Maruti’s Manesar site in 2012.

A local court here today convicted 31 workers and acquitted 117 in connection with a case of violence at Maruti’s Manesar site in 2012.

The court said that it will pronounce the quantum of punishment later today.

A total of 148 workers were arrested and charged with murder of HR Manager Awanish Kumar Dev. While 139 were granted bail earlier, nine of the accused, including eight former union members, are still behind bars.

Violence broke out on July 18, 2002 at the Manesar site of the company after a heated debate over a disciplinary issue with an employee. At least 50 management people including 9 police officials were injured in the clashes.
