Kashmir Tickets Agents Forum Wednesday announced 100 air tickets at "low fares" to facilitate return to Kashmir of patients suffering from critical ailments and elderly persons, who were stuck in Jammu due to closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the only all weather road linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, was reopened for one-way traffic on Tuesday after remaining closed for a week due to heavy snowfall and incessant rains in the region.
"We the local Air ticketing agents forum of Kashmir would like to extend a helping hand to the stranded passengers at Jammu. We have decided to offer tickets at flat rate of Rs 2500- Rs 3500 as against the online fares of Rs 10,000-Rs 20,000 for Jammu-Srinagar sector only," president of the forum said in a statement.
He said the initiative is taken and sponsored by all ticketing agents of valley, who have pooled their stock. Around 100 seats are available for travel between 18 February to 28 February 2019, he said.
This offer is valid only for patients, senior citizens aged above 60 years and those from weaker sections of the society like BPL families.
"We would request only the needy people to approach us for these tickets. Senior citizens, who have the accommodation at Jammu and are in comfortable position, are requested not to apply. Let those senior citizens who are stuck at Bus stand Jammu, Gurduwaras and other places avail this offer," he added.
