Pune Porsche accident: The Maharashtra excise department has sealed two restaurants following orders from the Pune district collectorate. These establishments were implicated in serving liquor to a 17-year-old boy who was later involved in a fatal car accident. According to local administration, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday. The teenager, allegedly intoxicated, was driving a Porsche that hit and killed two motorbike-riding software engineers in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area.
What did the police say about incident?
Police investigations reveal that on the night of the incident, specifically between 9:30 pm on Saturday and 1:00 am on Sunday, the accused and his friends visited the two restaurants where they allegedly consumed alcohol. The two outlets, Cosie restaurant and Hotel Blak Club, were sealed on Tuesday following orders of the district collectorate. While Cosie is located in Koregaon Park, an area adjacent to Kalyani Nagar, the Blak Club is in Mundhwa. "The Cosie restaurant and Blak Club in Marriot Suite have been sealed with immediate effect by the state excise department following orders from district collector Suhas Diwase," said a statement from the district administration.
A special inspection drive has been started by the excise department to ensure pubs and license holding restaurants do not serve liquor to underage patrons and operate beyond the 1.30 am deadline, said the statement. If any violations are found, cases would be registered against such establishments and their licences will be cancelled, it added.
Porsche car's registration was pending since March: Official
On Tuesday, top officials of the Maharashtra transport department said the permanent registration of the luxury Porsche car was pending since March due to non-payment of Rs 1,758 fees by the owner. Speaking to the media, Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar told PTI that the Porsche car was imported in March by a dealer in Bengaluru and from there it was sent to Maharashtra on a temporary registration. "When it was produced at the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), it was found that a certain registration fee was not paid and the owner was asked to pay the amount for completion of the procedure. However, the vehicle was not brought to the RTO for the completion of the registration process after that," he said.
Case registered
It should be noted here that the police had registered a case against the teenager's father under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 75 deals with "willful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses," while section 77 deals with supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs. A case has been registered against the boy under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder ) of the IPC and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
