Pune Porsche accident case: Two doctors of Sassoon General Hospital in Pune were arrested for allegedly manipulating the blood report of the juvenile accused in the Porsche accident case which claimed two lives, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said on Monday (May 27). The accused in the early hours of May 19 allegedly knocked down two bikers in an inebriated state in the Kalyani Nagar area of the city. Initially, it was alleged that the report showed that he did not consume alcohol, however, the CCTV footage of that night clearly showed him drinking along with his friends at the bar. The arrested doctors were identified as Dr Ssrihari Harlor and Dr Ajay Taware.
How did the change of blood samples take place?
The minor involved in the accident was taken to Pune's Sassoon Government Hospital for a medical examination on May 19. The boy's family allegedly bribed the doctor. Dr. Ajay Taware, head of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at Sassoon Hospital, and Dr. Shrihari Harlol, Chief Medical Officer in the emergency department, were involved in the matter.
Harlol collected the boy's blood sample. However, suspecting the presence of alcohol in it, they decided to replace the sample. Moreover, to cover up this crime, Taware, who was on leave, intervened. Another patient's blood sample was then sent for testing. However, Pune Police decided to send the minor's blood sample to another lab for DNA testing, which revealed the tampering.
Juvenile sent to observation home
Following an outcry over the quick grant of bail, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on May 22 remanded a 17-year-old youth allegedly involved in a car accident that claimed two lives to an observation home till June 5.
The JJB had on Sunday granted bail to the teeanger hours after the Porsche car allegedly driven by him knocked down and killed two IT professionals in their 20s on a motorbike.
It also asked him to write a 300-word essay on road accidents, an order that drew an onslaught of criticism.
