Mumbai: Police constable hangs himself, accuses wife of harassment in suicide note

The body of the constable was recovered from his residence situated in the Pratiksha Nagar police quarters on Friday night.

Vijay Salunkhe, a 38-year-old constable with the Mumbai police, was found dead by suicide at his residence in the Pratiksha Nagar police quarters on Friday night. The constable, who was stationed at Shahu Nagar police station, left behind a note accusing his wife of harassment, according to an official statement released on Saturday.

Significantly, Salunkhe ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan while he was alone at home. Speaking of the incident, a police official said, upon investigation, the police found a suicide note on Salunkhe, in which he alleged that his wife had been harassing him. The couple has a daughter.

Moreover, an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been filed, and a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances leading to Salunkhe’s death. 

Further, in other news, earlier a Mumbai constable posted with the Worli Local Arms division-3 lost his life after he was allegedly injected with a poisonous substance by a gang of robbers and drug addicts on railway tracks near Matunga on April 27.  He was a resident of Thane.
