After a purported viral video showing a couple allegedly assaulting a cab driver surfaced online in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area, the police on Friday (August 30) stated that an FIR has been registered under sections 115,117, 351 (2), and 352 of BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) in connection with the case.

About the incident

Parksite Police, who registered the case based on the victim's complaint, said the incident happened on Friday in the Ghatkopar area. Santosh Ghatekar, the senior police officer of the Parksite Police Station said, the conflict between the accused Rishabh Chakravorty and the victim cab driver occurred as the accused first dashed the cab with his car near Asalpha village in Ghatkopar.

"After which the cab driver stopped him and asked to compensate for the damage caused to his vehicle. But Chakravorty drove away without paying any attention. After this the cab driver followed Chakravorty to his residence on LBS Marg in Ghatkopar and when Chakravorty stopped his car, the cab driver dashed his car from behind. This led to the conflict between the two," the police official said,

Significantly, as the cab driver dashed into accused's luxury car, the couple inside (Rishabh and his wife), hurriedly got out of it, and he started slapping the cab driver. He then lifted the cab driver and threw him to the ground, causing serious injuries to his head and body, the police added. Significantly, the incident was captured by a nearby CCTV camera.

Case registered

Meanwhile, Parksite Police reported that they have registered a case against two based on the complaint by the 24-year-old Ola driver. While, the police said, no arrests have been made so far, the victim however suffered serious injuries. According to the police, Qureshi, a resident of Govandi, was taken to Rajawadi Hospital by security personnel. However, due to the severity of his head injuries, he was later admitted to JJ Hospital. Once he regained consciousness, the police registered a case. Further investigation is ongoing.
