A woman was seriously injured after being struck by a speeding car while walking on the roadside in Pimpri Chinchwad city, Maharashtra. The incident, which occurred in the Hinjawadi area on Tuesday afternoon, was captured on CCTV and quickly went viral on social media. The CCTV footage shows the woman crossing the road when a speeding car hits her, sending her flying into the air before she violently crashes to the ground. Bystanders immediately rushed to her aid as she lay motionless.

Details of the incident

The accident occurred on June 12 at Swaraj Chowk within the MIDC Bhosari Police Station limits. The driver of the car, who was not intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle and hit the woman. The injured woman, identified as Rekha, was taken to the hospital by the driver himself and is currently receiving treatment.

Police statement

Pimpri-Chinchwad DCP Shivaji Pawar stated, “In an accident with a white Wagon R, the victim Rekha was injured, yesterday between 3:30-4:00 PM. She is stable now. The accused, a 24-year-old, has been taken into custody and the car seized.”

Family and further action

The woman's brother and uncle arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and took her home. They informed the police that they would file a formal complaint.

This incident follows a tragic case nearly a month earlier where a 17-year-old boy, allegedly drunk, drove a Porsche and killed two IT professionals. The teenager was released on bail 15 hours after being detained, sparking nationwide outrage.
