Two people were arrested for allegedly stabbing a man to death in the Mumbai local train last month, the police said. The incident took place on April 28 night when a 55-year-old man, identified as Dattatreya Bhoir was returning to Mumbai along with his friend Pradeep Shirose and two others after attending a friend's Haldi function in Ulhasnagar. The man was allegedly attacked with a belt and knife, the video of which surfaced on social media and went viral. The police held two persons in connection with the incident while a hunt for two others is underway.
How did the incident take place?
According to the police, an altercation took place between two groups in the inebriated state in the train after which a man took off his belt and beat the elderly man and then stabbed him. The man was rushed to the hospital with the knife still there in his stomach. He died at the hospital during treatment.
Video of the incident went viral
In the viral video that surfaced on social media, it can be seen that a man wearing a maroon shift took off his belt and attacked the other person. The elderly man was seen bleeding from his stomach. The attackers were identified as 40-year-old Amol Pardeshi and 21-year-old Tanji Kumar Jammuwal who attacked him between Titwala and Vashind in a local train going towards Kasara.
Police registered a case of murder
The police said that on the night of 28th April, between 2.15 to 2.30 am, a person named Dattatreya was injured in a clash between two groups between Titwala and Vashind in the local train. He had a knife wound in his stomach and died during treatment in the hospital.
“Earlier, we had registered a case under sections of fighting in this case and after the death of a person, we have registered a case under murder. Two accused have been arrested in this case while the search for the other two is ongoing,” the police said.
