Maharashtra Election: Congress announces 48 candidates, fields Patole, Chavan and Thorat | Full list

Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: The list comes a day after the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) of the Congress, NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) announced that they will contest 85 seats each in the November 20 polls.

Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: The Congress party today (October 24) announced the names of 48 candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls. Congress released its first list of candidates and fielded state unit chief Nana Patole from the Sakoli seat.

Congress fielded Vijay Wadettiwar from Bramhmapuri, Vijay Balasaheb Thorat from Sangamner and Amit Deshmukh from Latur City. Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to contest from Karad South, Nitin Raut from Nagpur North and Jyoti Eknath Gaikwad from Dharavi.

The opposition party also fielded Amit Deshmukh from Latur City and Dheeraj Deshmukh from Latur Rural.

Congress leader Vikas Thakre to contest from  Nagpur West Assembly constituency in Maharashtra elections. He said, "As the party has given me an election ticket, I think will fair well. I want to convert the party's trust in me into service for the public. I will become the kind of public representative Nagpur demands."

Vijay Wadettiwar on his candidature from Brahmapuri seat

On his candidature from Brahmapuri in Maharashtra Assembly elections, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said, "We will fulfil the responsibility given to me by the party leadership. We will win from Brahmapuri by a huge majority and I have confidence that Brahmapuri will have a part in Maharashtra govt formation."

Mohammad Aarif Naseem Khan has been fielded from Chandivali, Aslam Sheikh from Malad West, Ranjit Kamble from Deoli and Vikas Thakre from Nagpur West. However, deliberations to seal a final pact are still underway. The three allies are discussing the sharing of the remaining 33 seats of the total 288 among themselves and smaller parties. Addressing a press conference, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said a consensus has been reached on 270 of the 288 seats.

"We will include the Samajwadi Party, PWP, CPI(M), CPI and AAP. Discussions are still on for the remaining seats. We have amicably arrived at a consensus on 270 seats. The MVA stands united to defeat the Mahayuti government," Raut said.

Patole said the remaining seats will be given to smaller parties. The ruling Mahayuti alliance comprises Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. 

When will Maharashtra vote?

The nomination process for the 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly has started and the polling will happen on November 20 with the results to be declared on November 23.

In the 2019 assembly elections in Maharashtra, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena secured 56, and Congress won 44 seats.
