The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a Red alert for Mumbai, Palghar and Nashik for Thursday. The rain alert was issued amid heavy rains in Mumbai and Pune. The visuals from Pune and Mumbai show that heavy rain battered the cities causing slow traffic movement and waterlogging in several parts of the town.
"25 September, Mumbai Thane Papghar Raigad, Pune and parts of Satara almost overcast as seen in the latest satellite obs at 6.30 pm. Possibility of mod to intense intermittent spells during next 3,4 hrs at many places over these regions. Watch fir imd alerts," K S Hosalikar, Head-IMD Pune, in a post on X.
"Extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places are very likely on Thursday," IMD said in its statement for Palghar and Nashik.

Rain prediction for Delhi-NCR and parts of Himachal, Uttarakhand
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department also predicted rains in parts of Delhi-NCR, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Thursday.
The Bay of Bengal winds sweep towards the Delhi-NCR region, said IMD scientist Dr Naresh, adding this is likely to cause rain in parts of north India.
"Winds from the Bay of Bengal are coming towards Delhi-NCR, this may result in light rain in the evening. Light rainfall may also occur tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. The rainfall activity will end after that... We expect that the weather will be pleasant after that... In the coming 1 or 2 days, Himachal Pradesh may experience light to moderate rainfall. Uttarakhand may receive isolated heavy rainfall," he added.
