Amid the paper leak controversy dominating the national discourse, a case has been registered against a person allegedly trying to sell a fake question paper online in Madhya Pradesh. According to police, the Indore police have registered a case against an unidentified person for trying to sell a Madhya Pradesh state service exam by claiming the paper had been leaked, an official said on Monday.

The case was registered on Sunday after a complaint was lodged by a vigilance officer of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC). The case was registered under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology, the official from Sanyogitaganj police station said.

Fake paper was sold at Rs 2,500

As per a candidate of the MPPSC examination, paper leak rumours started because of an account created on the social media platform 'Telegram' where it was claimed that question papers of the preliminary round of the exam conducted by the MPPSC were available for Rs 2,500 each. He added that a QR code was also provided on the said account for the payments.

Ravindra Panchbhai, the MPPSC Officer on Special Duty told PTI that a "suspicious" question paper was circulated on social media two days ago with a false claim of leak of the 'General Studies' subject paper. "We compared the suspicious question paper with the original one of the subject for the preliminary round of the state service exam held on Sunday and found it to be fake," he said.

Examination conducted for 110 posts

As mentioned by officials, nearly 1.83 lakh candidates were eligible to appear in the preliminary round of the examination, which was held on Sunday in 55 districts of the state. The official added that the examination was conducted for 110 posts. These posts included 15 posts of deputy collector and 22 of deputy superintendent of police.

After the rumours were spread, state Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had given a stern warning and said that his government will not tolerate any kind of negligence and will follow law and order. Notably, the case is concerning as CBI is currently investigating leak cases related to NEET and UGC- NET.
