A surprising revelation made by a survey states that Indian men are against their wives observing a fast for them on Karva Chauth. Matchmaking service Shaadi.com conducted a survey to understand men’s perspective on this festival. Shaadi.com #Fastforher also has an annual campaign during Karwa Chauth asking men to fast along with their wives to show love and equality in marriage. In the last three years, over five lakh pledges have been received, signifying the change in mindset among young couples.
Men were asked if they’ll fast with their wives, who are fasting for them. 61% responded affirmatively while 39% of men said No. 93% of men said they don't want their wives to fast for them instead they want to celebrate the day differently.
To understand the change in outlook amongst men with regard to the tradition of fasting on Karwa Chauth, they were asked how they would like to celebrate Karwa Chauth and 50 per cent said they will ‘take the day off and spend quality time together', followed by 23 per cent saying that ‘a romantic candle light dinner' and eight per cent said ‘take a vacation'.
"Couples are now breaking away from age-old customs, and are looking to celebrate their love and bring the spark back in relationships by celebrating occasions and festivals in a different way," Gourav Rakshit, CEO, Shaadi.com, said in a statement.
This online poll received 6,537 responses from Indian men, aged between 24 to 40 years.
