#WorldWaterDay: 7 benefits of drinking water you probably didn’t know
World Water Day is a reminder that we have the privilege of 20 percent of world’s fresh water flowing through our community every day.
Drink lots of water in a day! We hear this sentence ‘n’ number of times throughout the day. But, do we really care to adher to it. The importance of water cannot be denied. Water is an essential part of living and survival.
In a bid to understand the importance of water in our lives, every year on March 22, World Water Day is celebrated. This year's theme for World Water Day is 'Nature for Water' - exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.
With over 85 percent of the world living in conditions of water shortages and 1.1 billion people without access to safe drinking water, World Water Day is a reminder that we have the privilege of 20 percent of world’s fresh water flowing through our community every day.
On this day, we bring to you 7 benefits of drinking water that you probably aren’t aware of:
Clear and glowy skin:
Certain toxins in the body can cause the skin to inflame, which results in clogged pores and acne. While science saying water makes the skin wrinkle free is contradictory, water does flush out these toxins and can reduce the risk of pimples. It’s the best anti-aging treatment around!
Say bye bye to hangovers:
A hangover refers to the unpleasant symptoms experienced after drinking alcohol. A good way to reduce hangovers is to drink a glass of water between drinks, and to have at least one big glass of water before going to bed and stop that pounding headache.
Ease migraine headaches:
One of the main reasons people suffer from frequent migraine attacks is dehydration. Not drinking sufficient water leads to headaches. Drinking water after you wake up helps prevent this and also eliminates exhaustion, thus boosting energy.
Promotes weight loss
Forget other diet tricks—drinking water could also help with weight loss. Numerous studies have found a connection between water consumption and losing a few pounds. The secret reason? Water simply helps people feel full, and as a result consume fewer calories.
It is actually best to drink water cold, because then the body will use additional energy (calories) to heat the water to body temperature.
Fuel energy levels and brain functioning
Sweating at the gym causes muscles to lose water. And when the muscles don’t have enough water, they get tired. So for extra energy, try drinking water to push through that final set of squats.
A study in London found a link between students bringing water into an exam room and better grades, suggesting H2O promotes clearer thinking. While it’s unclear if drinking the water had anything to do with a better score, it doesn’t hurt to try it out!
Prevents health problems
Health problems such as constipation and kidney stones can all be dealt with by drinking water. Water also helps in regulating the digestive tract and if anyone has gastritis, drinking 3 glasses on an empty stomach helps reduce the level of acidity. Practicing this daily also helps in cleaning the bowel and keeps you healthy.
Sickness fighter
Water may help with decongestion and dehydration, helping the body bounce back when feeling under the weather. Just beware—drinking fluids hasn’t been scientifically proven to beat colds in one swoop, so don’t swap this for a trip to the doctor or other cold remedies.
