She recently went live on her Facebook page and discussed in detail about why it is important to eat Diwali sweets.
Thr first question that pops in everyone’s head is should we eat Diwali sweets? Rujuta Diwekar assures in her discussion that it is completely healthy to eat all kinds of Diwali sweets. From homemade laddoo, halwa and to barfis, they make the essence of the Diwali celebration and it is okay to have them. However, she advises against eating sweets that are made by the industries, especially chocolate industry. According to Rujuta Diwekar, chocolate is one industry which involves a lot of child labour across the world, which is why she stresses on making the sweets at home and with the entire family.

Well, what is better than bringing the whole family together at one place and add the sweetness of mithais in our lives? If this isn’t possible, Diwekar suggests to buys sweets from local shops and sweet vendors in your area. Noone can deny that sweets are the highlights of Diwali and if you are not Diabetic, it is your right t consume them and celebrate our culture. People with diabetes should, on the other hand, completely avoid having them thinking of their sugar content. Rujuta highlights the fact that traditional home-cooked mithais are prepared in a way that they are naturally low in glycemic index. Thus, diabetics can eat home-cooked sweets as it will keep blood sugar levels stable.
Diwali is one festival when you should enjoy every sweetness guiltfree. There is no need to starve yourself and kill those craving. However, after these 3-4 days of celebration, you would have to go back to your healthy food anyhow.
