Sharad Purnima, which falls on 5th October, 2017, is also known as Kojagira Purnima. It is the festival which marks the end of monsoon. This year it is going to be celebrated on 5th October on Thursday. It holds spiritual and religious significance in many parts of the country. Falling on the full moon day of the Ashwin month, this day is also known as Kaumudi celebration. In some places, Kojagiri Vrat or Kaumudi Vrat is also observed. It is also believed that on this day, Goddess Lakshmi arrives on an owl and those who worships the goddess throughout the night, is blessed with prosperity.
In fact, the word Kojagiri itself means ‘Kaun Jaag Raha Hai’ or ‘Who’s still awake’. Goddess Lakshmi’s idol is established in the place of worship, following all the rituals involved. Lord Kuber’s idol is also established and worshipped.
