The festival of Durga puja celebrated in the city of Kolkata in India is popular worldwide for its grand festivity. Though the revelry takes place in many other cities, the authenticity of the occasion can be witnessed in Kolkata only.
This nine-day long Bengali festival is observed every year and for its gaiety celebration, pandals are set up where the idol of goddess Durga is worshipped.
These pandals are designed using different materials and adorned with lights and flowers. But this year, a pandal near Santoshpur Lake in Kolkata was built using 4,000 kgs of turmeric.
The turmeric was used to make the pandal including the idol of goddess Durga with an objective.
Since turmeric, which is also known as Curcuma longa scientifically, is used to make a pandal to foster awareness about the health benefits of the ingredient among locals.
The founder member of this particular pandal said that turmeric has many health benefits and therefore, should be included in our kitchen for a better lifestyle.
