Good Friday, a day of mourning and penance is observed by Christians all across the world. It is the solemn day when Jesus Christ was crucified at the Calvary. It is also known as Great Friday, Holy Friday or Black Friday and many believers fast on this day.
Jesus Christ died in 33 AD and his death is considered as a sacrifice for mankind. However, the god resurrected on Easter Sunday. As per Gospel, Christ was found guilty of blasphemy, he proclaimed himself to be the King of Jews. Jesus was betrayed by one of his 12 disciples Judas Iscariot and he was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. When interrogated, Jesus answered nothing.
As per books, the high priest asked, ''Adjure you, by the Living God, to tell us, are you the Anointed One, the Son of God?'' To which Jesus answered, ''You have said it, and in time you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Almighty, coming on the clouds of Heaven.''
There are many theories attached to Good Friday. Many believe that it called good despite being a sorrow tone attached to it because of the goodness of Jesus Christ. Many say that in holy scriptures, the word 'God' is often referred to as 'Good'.
On Good Friday, people visit Church wearing black including the priest. Bells are not rung, candles are not lit up. Few countries including Germany ban horse racing and dancing on Good Friday. Pope Francis also presides over the Good Friday commemorative at the Vatican City. People remember the sacrifice by Jesus Christ.
