Congress reached a consensus for the formation of the Karnataka government after days of impasse. With DK Shivakumar, the state president of the Congress, serving as his deputy, Siddaramaiah is all set to retake office as Chief Minister of Karnataka.
At least eight other Congress leaders, including Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, sworn in as ministers. Today, May 20, the inauguration took place at the Kanteerava stadium in Bengaluru.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge affirmed that eight MLAs, who will make vow as ministers, will go to the service.
Dr. G Parmeshwar, KJ George, K H Muniyppa, Satish Jarkiholi, Zameer Ahmed, Ramalinga Reddy, Priyank Kharge, and MB Patil are the MLAs who sworn in as cabinet ministers.
DK Shivakumar had initially been insisting on the top position after the results of the Karnataka Assembly elections were announced. He cited his work over the past five years, including rebuilding the party after their government fell in 2019 and leading the Congress to a massive mandate in the Assembly election on May 10.
However, Siddaramaiah's CM bid depended on bigger MLA backing and surveys claiming his popularity, and furthermore his 5-year complete tenure as a chief minister.
Siddaramaiah, the new chief minister-designate, was the first chief minister of Karnataka in 40 years to complete a five-year term. In point of fact, he is the second chief minister to do so in the history of the southern state, following Devaraj Urs.
In the May 10 election for the Karnataka Assembly, the Congress won a decisive mandate, winning 135 of the 224 seats and removing the BJP from power. The BJP was a far off second with 66 seats and the JD(S), which had expected to play the kingmaker, was down with only 19 seats.
