Karnataka: Govt orders closure of schools, colleges in THESE districts, red-orange alert issued
Karnataka: Schools and colleges announced a holiday tomorrow in Kodagu district in view of the heavy rain in the district. Orange alert announced for Kodagu district.
Karnataka: The active southwest monsoon has created a flood scare in the state with many small streams overflowing following the downpour. In view of incessant showers and rain-related problems authorities on Monday announced holiday for schools and colleges in nine districts -- Belagavi, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Hassan, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada.
Red alert for these districts
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada and orange alert in Kodagu district. Temporary disruption of electricity, minor traffic snarls and possible damage to ‘Kuccha’ and unsecured structures in some areas of Karnataka is expected.
Orange alert- Yellow alert
An orange alert has been announced for Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Shivamogga, while Belagavi, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura and Hassan are on yellow alert.
Man swept away in Udupi
Meanwhile, a shocking video is doing rounds on social media, where a 23-year-old youth, Sharath Kumar from Bhadravathi in Shivamogga district swept away after he slipped while standing on a rock just at the edge of the waterfall. As per reports, he went to Arishinagundi waterfall at Byndoor in Udupi district to make an Instagram video. Search operations are underway to trace him.
