Karnataka: Police constable on duty killed by sand mafia in Kalaburagi
Police have arrested the accused driver Siddanna in the case and he has confessed to the crime.
In a shocking incident, a constable of Nelogi Police Station died on duty while trying to stop a tractor transporting illegally mined sand near Narayanpur in Jewargi taluk of Kalaburagi on Friday. Police said, the tractor driver allegedly ran over the police constable.
According to reports, 51-year-old Mayura who was working as Constable at Nelogi Police Station was trying to stop the truck which was carrying illegal sand when the driver ran over the constable.
Police have arrested the accused driver Siddanna in the case and he has confessed to the crime. A case has been registered.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameswhara also announced compensation. "We have already taken action. It is unfortunate that our Policeman has died on duty. We have arrested a person who has done it, we are searching for one more person. It will be done very soon. Rs 30 Lakhs compensation has already been given to that family. Reacting to the incident, State Minister Priyank Kharge said, "I have once again given strict orders to the police department to immediately take legal action against illegal sand mining. An investigation has been ordered into the incident."
