A 20-year-old man allegedly killed a delivery agent who had gone to deliver an iPhone after the former failed to pay Rs 46,000 for the device.

The delivery boy refused to open the box and said that he wouldn't be able to take it back if it was opened.

Reports say that the accused then stabbed the delivery boy and kept his body at his home for four days.

Later, he took his body on his two-wheeler to an isolated place and burnt it using kerosene.

The deceased's brother lodged a missing complaint with the police after he didn't return home.

The accused, identified as Hemanth Datta, a resident of Arasikere town in Hassan district, also used to work as a delivery boy earlier.

The deceased has been identified as Hemanth Naik, was also a resident of the same town.

After the matter was reported to police, the cops began tracking the last location of the delivery executive which was traced to Hemanth's house.

Upon reaching the accused's house, the cops found deceased's phone and other items.

"We got the information about a half burnt dead body near the railway track at Lakshmipuram near Anchekopalu bridge on February 11 morning," Hassan Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar told reporters.

"Hemanth Datta did not have money to pay. He asked the delivery boy (Hemanth Naik) to stay at home saying he was getting the money.
Datta then planned to eliminate him with a knife. When Naik was busy scrolling his phone, Datta slit his throat and stabbed him to death," Shankar said.
