HD Kumaraswamy, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, has predicted that the BJP-JD(S) alliance will defeat the Congress in the next state assembly elections. He has cited the recent by-election results as evidence of the growing popularity of the BJP-JD(S) alliance. "We will solve issues related to seat sharing...Everybody is watching how the present state government is running...Our aim is to defeat Congress in the future elections...," said JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy on the BJP-JD(S) alliance.
Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy has denied that his party has allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Kumaraswamy said that negotiations between the two parties are still in the initial stages and that a lot of discussions are yet to happen. He also dismissed media reports that the JDS is adamant about contesting the Mandya Lok Sabha seat, which was won by a BJP-backed independent candidate in 2019.
"All these have not yet been discussed," Kumaraswamy said. "I appeal to media friends not to speculate when discussions are still in an initial phase."
A meeting of JDS party workers has been called to gather their opinions on the possibility of an alliance with the BJP.
On Thursday, BJP leader BS Yediyurappa claimed that the two parties had struck a deal under which the JDS would contest four of the state's 28 Lok Sabha seats.
