Man intrudes Karnataka Assembly: A 72-year-old man sneaked into the Karnataka Assembly on Friday (July 7), posing as an MLA, and was arrested only after he had spent nearly 15 minutes wandering in the House amidst the legislators.
The man was identified as Thipperudra who entered the Assembly impersonating Sagar MLA Belur Gopalakrishna, police sources said.
The intruder walked around for some time and also took Devadurga MLA Karemma’s seat for nearly 15 minutes, they added.
When Gurmitkal JD(S) MLA Sharanagouda Kandakur grew suspicious, he called the marshals of the House.
“On the day Siddaramaiah presented his historic budget, this historic incident too occurred where for the first time in the Karnataka assembly’s history a man sneaked into the Karnataka assembly,” Kandakur quipped.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) R Srinivas Gowda said the intruder gained entry into the assembly by identifying himself as an MLA.
“The marshals held him after confirming that he was an impersonator. He was handed over to the Vidhana Soudha police. We are interrogating him to find out the motive,” Gowda said while talking to the media.
A police officer said it was difficult for the marshals deployed at the assembly to identify the legislators as there are many new faces.
Siddaramaiah presents seventh Budget as CM
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday presented the state budget for the first time since Congress took control of the state following its sweeping victory in the assembly elections on May 10. Siddaramaiah said that approximately Rs 52,000 crore would be spent annually for the five key poll "guarantees" and that it is anticipated to benefit 1.3 crore households.
He stated that the government will provide each household with an average additional financial assistance of Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 per month through the five "guarantees" (poll promises) in the Legislative Assembly.
As Siddaramaiah presented his record-breaking 14th budget on Friday, this was his seventh Budget as chief minister.
