No alliance with BJP? Deve Gowda says JDS to fight Lok Sabha polls alone but with a caveat

Lok Sabha polls: Kumaraswamy earlier said that party supremo HD Deve Gowda had approved him to take any official conclusion in regards to the party, and that there is still time for Parliament polls to discuss it.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Tuesday said that Janata Dal (Secular) will fight Lok Sabha elections independently. The latest decision comes after Karnataka's former chief minister pronounced that his party, JD(S), and the BJP will cooperate as an opposition. "JD(S) will field candidates for LS polls only in segments where party is strong, after consulting cadres," said Deve Gowda, according to news agency PTI.

"Whether we (the party) win five, six, three, two or one seats, we will fight the Lok Sabha elections independently", he said. "We will field candidates only in those places where we are strong after consulting with our workers".

Kumaraswamy earlier said that party supremo HD Deve Gowda had approved him to take any official conclusion in regards to the party, and that there is still time for Parliament polls to discuss it. He was answering a question on the conversations in the JD(S) council party meeting on Thursday night, which was gone to by Gowda, in the midst of reports about the chance of JD(S) aligning with the NDA in ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

"I have proactively expressed both inside and outside the assembly, as both BJP and JD(S) are opposition parties, cooperating in light of a legitimate concern for the state has been chosen. Indeed, even today morning, MLAs of our party talked about how to go on," he said.

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, he said, in the legislature party meeting Gowda has prompted that in the wake of social event the assessment every one of the leaders, a 10-member team must be formed with portrayal from all communities, for the party association and to raise the voice against the wrongdoings of this (Congress) government in all the 31 districts.

"Still there is 11 months for Parliament polls. Let's see when Parliament election comes. It was advised to organise the party. Additionally, Deve Gowda has said that he has approved me to take any official conclusion with respect to the party," he added.

In the mean time, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that BJP and JDS destabilise the government." They are making some political procedure for their political gains yet nothing will work. Our government is solid and stable," he said.

In the polls to the 224-part Assembly held in May, the Congress Assembly 135 seats, while the BJP got 66 and the JD(S) 19.
