In a tragic incident, one worker was killed and as many as 20 were trapped under the debris after an under-construction building collapsed in Karnataka's capital Bengaluru. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Babusapalya area amid heavy rains. Meanwhile, rescue teams have successfully rescued 3 individuals so far, and efforts are ongoing to save the remaining people.

As per the information, authorities are on-site, and emergency services are working to safely evacuate those trapped. According to a preliminary inquiry, the entire building collapsed following which people got trapped underneath, a fire department official said. "Approximately 20 people were trapped. One body has been recovered, 14 workers have been rescued and five are still missing," D Devaraja, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Bengaluru) told media.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, and further updates are awaited. Speaking to the media, an eyewitness also confirmed that a total of 20 people were there in the building. "Our 7 people were working there and one of them has died. The building collapsed due to heavy rainfall. It was a 7-storied building. Three others have been injured and hospitalised. The incident took place around 1 pm," he added. 

5 killed in rain-related incidents

Meanwhile, five people were killed in rain-related incidents in Bengaluru, which has been reeling under incessant rains for the past three days, bringing several residential areas and roads under knee-deep water. Five teams of the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force were deployed to evacuate marooned people with the help of coracles in the country's IT capital on Tuesday.

North Bengaluru bore the brunt of the rains as several areas were flooded in and around Yelahanka. According to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Yelahanka received 157 mm (six inches) rain in just six hours from Tuesday midnight to Tuesday 6 am.
