Jharkhand: Three die as two-storey building collapses in Deoghar

Jharkhand building collapse: An official of National Disaster Response Force, which is conducting the rescue operation, said one person has been rescued and two others are feared trapped under the debris of the building that collapsed in Deoghar town around 6:00 am.

Jharkhand building collapse: At least three persons died and three others were injured after being buried under the debris of a two-storey building that collapsed in Jharkhand's Deoghar district today (July 7). A rescue operation was underway as a few others were feared trapped under the debris of the building that collapsed in Deoghar town around 6:00 am.

"As many as six persons were retrieved from under the debris and brought to the Sadar Hospital here. Of them, two were brought dead. Another woman succumbed to the injuries. The treatment of the three others, including a child, is underway," Deoghar Civil Surgeon Ranjan Sinha told media.

A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed for the rescue operation. Deoghar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ritvik Srivastava told media, "A few more seem to be still trapped under the debris. The rescue operation is underway."

NDRF Inspector Randhir Kumar, who is leading the operation, said that efforts are underway to retrieve the trapped persons.

Bridge collapse in Giridih

A portion of an under-construction bridge over the Arga river collapsed and a pillar got tilted in heavy rain in Jharkhand's Giridih district on June 30. The incident took place in Deori block, around 235 km from Jharkhand's capital Ranchi, on Saturday night. There was no report of any injury. 

The bridge is being constructed on Fatehpur-Bhelwagati road to connect Dumritola and Karipahri villages. Executive Engineer of Road Construction Department, Giridih, Vinay Kumar told media, "The bridge is under construction. A single-span girder of the bridge collapsed due to heavy rain on Saturday night and a pillar got tilted. The contractor has been asked to rebuild the portion."

He, however, did not divulge the project cost of the bridge. According to sources the bridge is being constructed at a cost of around Rs 5 crore and it would connect the remote villages of Giridih in Jharkhand and Jamui district in Bihar. Another engineer said that the casting on the girder was done a week ago and it needed at least 28 days to be strengthened.
