Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Indian Army arrested six Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist associates in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla and Budgam districts and recovered incriminating materials from their possession, said officials on Thursday.
The security forces busted a terror module in Uri area of Baramulla and three terrorist associates of LeT involved in running the module were arrested. "During joint patrolling and area domination exercise in Churunda Uri, a joint team of Baramulla Police and Army (16 SIKHLI) noticed a suspicious person who attempted to flee upon spotting the patrolling party. However, the suspect was apprehended tactfully," police said.
The person was identified as Showkat Ali Awan, resident of Churunda area of Uri.
Accused were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition
During investigation, he revealed the names of his accomplices Ahmad Din and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana who were questioned and upon their disclosure two grenades, a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine and four live rounds were recovered from them. The accused were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers and its further distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities.
The poliec further said that a case has been registered and investigations has been taken up.
3 LeT terror associates arrested
In another incident, security forces arrested three terrorist associates linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT in Budgam in central Kashmir and recovered incriminating materials from their possession. Police along with Army (62 RR) arrested three terrorist associates in Khansahab area of district Budgam.
The terrorist associates have been identified as Qaisar Ahmad Dar, resident of Kremshora, and Tahir Ahmad Dar and Aqib Rashed Ganie – both residents of Wagar.
"Incriminating materials, including a Chinese hand grenade, two magazines and 57 live rounds have been recovered from their possession. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation," they said.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Khansahab and investigation has been taken up.
2 security personnel among 4 injured in grenade blast in Anantnag
As many as four people, including two security personnel, were injured in a grenade blast in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday, news agency PTI reported. The explosion took place during a cordon and search operation in the Kokernag area of the south Kashmir district.
The injured were two security personnel and as many civilians. They have been hospitalised and their condition is stated to be stable, the officials said.
