Highest ever polling in J-K, turnout almost doubled in Baramulla, Srinagar, over 4-times in Anantnag-Rajouri

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the people of Baramulla “for their unbreakable commitment to democratic values” after it recorded its highest-ever voter turnout, stating that such active participation is a great trend.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In over several decades, Jammu-Kashmir has witnessed record polling in Lok Sabha elections 2024 so far, compared to earlier polls. During this election, Jammu-Kashmir is voting for the first time in parliamentary polls as a Union Territory after the revocation of Article 370. 

Jammu-Kashmir has a total of five Lok Sabha seats including Udhampur, Jammu, Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri. In the first five phases, polling has already concluded in Udhampur, Jammu, Srinagar, and Baramulla. Anantnag-Rajouri is voting today in the sixth phase. Let's compare the voting percentage in J-K constituencies in 2024 vs 2019. 

  1. Udhampur | 68.27 per cent in 2024 and 70.15 in 2019 
  2. Jammu | 72.22 per cent in 2024 and 72.5 in 2019 
  3. Srinagar 38.49 per cent in 2024 and 14.43 in 2019 
  4. Baramulla59.10 per cent in 2024 and 34.6 in 2019 
  5. Anantnag- Rajouri44.41 per cent in 2024 so far and 8.98 in 2019

If we look at the polling percentage in 2024 and 2019, except Udhampur, all four constituencies in J-K have witnessed more voting. 

While voting in Jammu is marginally high, it has almost doubled in Srinagar and Baramulla compared to 2019. In Anantnag-Rajouri where the election is underway today, polling has increased by 4 times than the last election.

Lauding voters for record polling in this election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier said, "Compliments to my sisters and brothers of Baramulla for their unbreakable commitment to democratic values. Such active participation is a great trend."
