The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah on Tuesday took a swipe at BJP saying he would change he name if the saffron party got the support of even 10 per cent people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP is not holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir due to fear of defeat, he said while addressing a public meeting in Kupwara.
"You talk about 'Sankalp' (resolution), hold elections here and you (BJP) will see our resolve. These people claim that 80 per cent people are with them, if even 10 per cent are with them then I will change my name" Omar Abdullah said.
Speaking on the celebration of UT Day on October 31 by the administration, Abdullah said the decision was not taken after asking us and on the contrary, the false promises of jobs given to the youth of Kashmir.
"Which UT day, was this UT created by asking us, now the situation is that the youths here have not got jobs and people from outside are becoming officers. First, the secretariat was emptied of local officers, then the police and Now officers who speak the local language are missing even from the districts, there is no question of religion,” he said.
The former CM alleged that no senior officer in the Jammu and Kashmir administration is a Muslim now.
Accusing the BJP government of promoting drug addiction in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said that the government has only opened liquor shops in the name of increasing taxes and has given free drugs to the youth here.
