Baramulla encounter: An exchange of fire broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district today (August 24). One terrorist was killed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Sopore.
Troops of CRPF were deployed for election duty with the magistrate in Jammu-Kashmir. One section of CRPF, along with Jammu Kashmir Police and Magistrate was deployed for duty at a veterinary hospital in Sopore.
At about 3:00 pm, a terrorist opened fire on troops from the back side of Naka Point (Veterinary Hospital road, Watergam). CRPF and other troops immediately retaliated and the suspected terrorist was eliminated in the exchange of fire, later on, Army and police also reached the spot and joined the operation.
On hearing, the sound of firing, troops of 32 RR also reached the spot. During a joint cordon and search operation in the area, one dead body of terrorist (Identity yet to ascertained) with one pistol two grenades and two magazines were recovered. Dead body of suspected terrorist with recoveries were taken into custody by the police. Dangiwacha cordon on Army, CRPF and JKP is still on.
Earlier, The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reported a terrorist attack near the police post in the Watergam forces camp. The firing was reported in Rafiabad area of North Kashmir on Saturday. The area was cordoned off.

"Exchange of fire at Watergam area of Sopore. Alert security forces retaliated," the police's Kashmir zone said in a post on X.
However, sources said a person was seen lying near the scene of the firing. One pistol with two loaded magazines and two grenades was found with the body.
