A pilgrim of Amarnath Yatra from Bihar died while another suffered injuries subsequent to falling down a track close to Kali Mata Morh on Friday night, an official said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday evening, when the two pilgrims were getting back from the holy cave.
“They lost the balance and fell down the track, in which one died on the spot while another suffered injuries,” official said. A rescue team was was quickly raced to the spot. The body of deceased was recovered and is being moved to Baltal base camp hospital, he said. The deceased has been distinguished as Vijay Kumar from Bihar while the injured has been recognised as Mamta Kumari from Bihar.
He said the injured pilgrim is going through treatment at Brarimarg base camp hospital and her condition is said to be stable. This is the second death in the Amarnath Yatra this year. On August 15, a 65-year-old pilgrim from Delhi died of a heart attack.
The Amarnath Yatra is an annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir. The yatra began on July 1 and is scheduled to end on August 15. This year, over 4.5 lakh pilgrims have registered for the yatra. The yatra is a challenging one, as it involves trekking through the mountains. Pilgrims are advised to take precautions and be aware of the risks involved.
