An encounter unfolded between security forces and militants in the Hadigam area of Kulgam district on Wednesday, as reported by the Kashmir Zone Police. The post, shared around 10.30 pm, confirmed the commencement of the encounter, with Kulgam Police, Army, and CRPF actively involved in addressing the situation.
Earlier on December 22, four soldiers lost their lives in a militant attack on two Army vehicles near Dehra Ki Gali (DKG) in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Army revealed that an operation has been underway in the Dehra Ki Gali area since December 20, with two Army vehicles carrying troops en route to the operational site. Terrorists opened fire on the vehicles at approximately 3.45 pm on December 21, leading to swift retaliation by the troops. In the ongoing operation, three soldiers suffered fatal injuries, and three others sustained non-fatal casualties. One of the injured soldiers later succumbed to his injuries.
The attack occurred as the vehicles were travelling from Bufliaz in Surankote to Thanamandi in Rajouri, where a Rashtriya Rifles unit is stationed. The militants, seemingly having laid an ambush near Topa Pir, targeted the vehicles as they reached the location. This incident at Topa Pir follows a historical event over two decades ago when militants killed the Rajouri District and Sessions Judge V K Phool, along with his friend and two police personnel, in the same area on December 1, 2001.
