Security forces bust narco-terror module in Kupwara, seize drugs and explosives, three arrested
The persons with drugs and explosives were arrested after the security forces got information about their suspected movement. The forces laid down a trap and arrested them while they were searching for purchasers of the drug.
In a major success, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara busted a narco-terror module and arrested three persons. The action also resulted in the recovery of arms, ammunition, and contraband from their possession, police said on Saturday.
According to the police spokesperson, a trap was laid by the police and the army in the Karnah area of north Kashmir’s Kup district based on an input that a peddler was trying to find purchasers for heroin.
The spokesperson added that two persons were arrested with approximately 500 grams of heroin. He identified the apprehended accused as Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh, who is a resident of Khawarparab Karnah, and Tariq Ahmad Malik, a resident of Baghballa.
Upon further investigation, the presence of three pistols with another person identified as Parvez Ahmed Pathan, a resident of Sadhpura, was revealed the spokesman said.
Later, Pathan was arrested in a joint raid by the police and army. Three pistols, 76 pistol rounds, six pistol magazines, and approximately five kg of suspected explosives were also recovered from his possession.
The Police spokesperson said that a case has been registered and further interrogations and investigations are underway. The Kupwara Police has stated that it is committed to a zero terror policy.
Earlier on May 23, the J-K Police launched a major crackdown on the illicit drug trade and arrested four notorious smugglers. The smugglers identified as Barkat Ahmad Dar, a resident of Shair Colony Sopore; Umar Bashir Zargar, a resident of Behrampora Rafiabad; Musaib Bashir Lone, a resident of Wadoora Payeen, Sopore and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat Tanveer, a resident of Kralgund Qaziabad, were booked under the PIT-NDPS Act and were subsequently lodged in jail.
