Jammu and Kashmir: As many as 50 individuals have been detained in connection with the recent terrorist attack on the pilgrims' bus in the Kanda area Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi, a police official said on Thursday (June 13). Nine people, including a todler, had died after terrorists opened fire on a bus on June 9 evening, after which the bus fell into a gorge. Over 30 people suffered injuries in the attack.
"District Police Reasi have detained 50 individuals in connection with the recent terrorist attack on a pilgrims' bus in the Kanda area of P/S Pouni. The incident, which occurred on 09.06.2024, resulted in several casualties and left the community in shock and grief," SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma said.
"The detentions were made following an intensive investigation led by the police at the Kanda Area Police Station, Pouni. Significant leads have been uncovered, aiding in the identification and capture of those who may potentially involved in orchestrating the attack. To ensure a comprehensive probe, search operations have been expanded to encompass the far-flung areas of Arnas and Mahore. These operations aim to uncover further evidence and apprehend terrorists who may be hiding in these remote regions. The law enforcement agencies are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the area. SSP urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately," SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma added.
Security situation in Jammu and Kashmir
The region has been put on high alert after receiving intel that the terrorists are planning fidayeen attacks on the security forces, J-K Police sources said on Wednesday. The inputs were received by the forces from “reliable sources”. They said that the terrorists are plotting to carry out suicide attacks in the camps or military instillations in the Sunderbani, Nowshera, Lamberi, Akhnoor and Domana areas of Rajouri and Jammu districts.Terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir
This comes as Jammu and Kashmir witnessed number of attacks in three days, starting June 9, in which terrorists opened fire upon a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in Reasi. 9 people were killed while over 30 were injured in the attack.
In another terror incident, terrorists attacked a house in Kathua. In a separate attack on Tuesday evening, at least six soldiers were injured after terrorists attacked Army's Temporary Operating Base (TOB) in Chattargalla area on Bhaderwah Bani road in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda. Another encounter broke out between terrorist and security forces at Kota Top in the Gandoh sub-division of the Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. As per the reports, a cop from Special Operations Group (SOG) was injured.
PM Modi reviews security situation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a review meeting to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting, he was joined by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and other high-ranking officials. According to government sources, the Prime Minister received a detailed briefing on the current security landscape and ongoing counter-terrorism initiatives in the region. This comes after the valley was rocked by a terrorist attack and encounters in the last one week.
