In a major crackdown against drug smuggling in the state, the Jammu & Kashmir police on Thursday booked four notorious drug smugglers from two different locations in the valley.

With formal detention orders from the competent authority, the police on Thursday (May 23) booked three notorious drug smugglers, namely Barkat Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Ahad Dar, resident of Shair Colony Sopore; Umar Bashir Zargar, son of Bashir Ahmad Zargar, resident of Behrampora Rafiabad; and Musaib Bashir Lone, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone, resident of Wadoora Payeen Sopore, from Sopore. Another individual, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat Tanveer, son of Mohd Ramzan Bhat, resident of Kralgund Qaziabad, was booked from Handwara. All the drug peddlers have been booked under the PIT-NDPS Act and were subsequently lodged in jail.

It is pertinent to note that the arrest of the above notorious drug peddlers comes on the margins of the police's recent action against wanted smuggler Chirag Attri, who has been involved in promoting drug abuse and trade by supplying drugs to the local youth of the area. He is currently lodged in District Jail at Kathua.

Further, in today's major crackdown, the Sopore police, after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, also booked a terrorist associate, namely Ahsan Ul Haq Khanday, son of Nazir Ahmad Khanday, resident of Nowpora Kalan Sopore, under the PSA. He is being subsequently shifted to Central Jail Kot-Balwal, Jammu.
