Anantnag Assembly Election 2024: The Anantnag Assembly constituency, one of the 90 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, is a high-profile seat in the Union Territory (UT). Anantnag is a part of the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency, which was won by JKNC's Mian Altaf Ahmad in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The Anantnag Assembly constituency is located in Anantnag district. It is constituency number 40 of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The constituency is a general seat not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). It will be the first election in the Valley since provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution were abrogated and the erstwhile state divided into two Union Territories in 2019. The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP), the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and the Congress are the main parties in the constituency. The JKPDP's Mufti Mohammad Sayeed won the Anantnag constituency in the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections for the second consecutive time. Sayeed became the Chief Minister after the election. In the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, JKNC's Beigh defeated the Jammu and Kashmir Awami League's (JKAL) Liyakat Ali Khan and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Vikram Kumar. In 1996 and 1987, the JKNC's Safdar Ali Beg and Independent candidate Mohd Syeed Shah won the constituency, respectively.

In the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections, JKPDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed won the seat with a margin of 6,028 votes. He was polled 16,983 votes with a vote share of 51.20%. He defeated Congress candidate Hilal Ahmad Shah, who got 10,955 votes (33.03%). Jammu and Kashmir Peoples National Conference (JKNC) candidate Iftikhar Hussain Misger stood third with 2,403 votes (7.24%), and BJP candidate Mohd Rafiq Wani was in the fourth position with just 1,275 votes (3.84%). The total number of votes polled was 33,200 (39.71%).
In the 2008 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections, JKPDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed won the seat. He was polled 12,439 votes with a vote share of 39.49%. JKNC candidate Mirza Mehboob Beigh got 7,548 votes (23.96%) and was the runner-up. Sayeed defeated Beigh by a margin of 4,891 votes. The total number of votes polled in this constituency was 31,501 (41.23%). Independent candidate Liyaqat Ali Khan came in third with 1,895 votes (6.02%), and another Independent candidate Hilal Ahmad Shah was in the fourth position with 1,683 votes (5.34%).
