With the annual Amarnath Yatra set to begin later this month, authorities reviewed security arrangements at Jammu Railway Station on Thursday in response to recent terror attacks.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Railways, Shailender Singh chaired the meeting, which was attended by officers from the Government Railway Police, Jammu, and other security agencies. Significantly, security measures have been heightened across Jammu following four consecutive terror attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts over the past four days. These attacks resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan, and left seven security personnel and several others injured.

Further, it is pertinent to note that Thursday's meeting focused on enhancing the security setup at the railway station to ensure the safety of pilgrims during the yatra. The 52-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-meter-high holy cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas will commence from the twin tracks on June 29, with the first batch of pilgrims departing from the Jammu base camp for the valley a day earlier.

Officials stated that a joint police control room will be established at the Jammu railway station. Addressing the meeting, SSP Railways Shailender Singh emphasized the need for increased interaction and coordination among security personnel from different agencies deployed at the station.

"This will help the security personnel to jointly thwart any terrorist act and prevent any act of camouflaging by anti-national elements," Singh said.
