Several cities across India, including Delhi and Mumbai are in lockdown as cases of COVID19 infection continue to surge. The total number of those infected has crossed 300-mark in the country. "Under this Janata (public) curfew, no one should leave their home or gather in their neighbourhoods.     Dr Harsh Vardhan warns everyone of anti-social elements giving false message on 'Janta Curfew'

    The Union Minister warned the countrymen by tweeting that some anti-social elements are spreading misinformation about the Coronavirus. It is being said in this false information that after the end of today's Janata curfew, the deadly virus will be eradicated. He tweeted, "Some anti-social elements are spreading misinformation that after today’s #JantaCurfew ends,the deadly virus will be wished away. They’re exhorting people to come outdoors after 9pm. This is false & an attempt to mislead the public. #SocialDistancing must be adopted as a habit."

    Good news from Lucknow

    A 35-year-old Toronto-based female doctor admitted to the isolation ward of the King George's Medical University (KGMU) was discharged from the hospital on Saturday after her two consecutive tests came negative. KGMU VC Prof MLB Bhatt said that the woman was admitted on March 8 and was the first case of Covid-19 reported in the city. She has been discharged after two tests - one on Friday night and another on Saturday morning - came negative. She will have to be in home quarantine for next 14 days before being declared fit to move out and lead a normal life."

    UP seeks ICMR permission for more diagnostic facilities

    The medical education department in Uttar Pradesh has sought permission from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to set up coronavirus confirmatory diagnostic facilities in nearly a dozen medical institutes and colleges in the state. At present, the coronavirus confirmatory diagnostic facility is limited to the King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow.

    With the ICMR's approval, the facility would be set up in about a dozen places, including the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) and medical colleges in Jhansi and Gorakhpur.

    Principal Secretary, medical education, Rajneesh Dubey said that he was confident of the permission being obtained in a day or two. Dubey said that so far, 866 isolation wards had been set up in government and private medical colleges to treat patients of coronavirus and efforts were going on to further increase the facilities.

    Stay indoors and stay healthy, says PM Modi

    Moments before the Janata Curfew that he proposed came into effect on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that the daylong stay-at-home for millions of Indians would "add tremendous strength to the fight" against coronavirus or COVID-19. "In a few minutes from now, the #JantaCurfew commences. Let us all be a part of this curfew, which will add tremendous strength to the fight against COVID-19 menace. The steps we take now will help in the times to come," PM Modi tweeted.
