Savitri Jindal, the wealthiest woman in India, won the Hisar assembly seat as an independent candidate in the recently concluded Haryana assembly elections, according to the Election Commission. With a total of 49,231 votes, Jindal comfortably defeated Congress candidate Ram Niwas Rara and incumbent BJP MLA Kamal Gupta.
Following her victory, Jindal expressed her gratitude to the residents of Hisar through a post on X, stating, "Abhaar Hisar Parivar" (gratitude to the family of Hisar). At 74 years old, Jindal is not only recognised for her wealth but also as the mother of BJP's Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal and the widow of late industrialist O.P. Jindal.
Throughout the vote counting process, Jindal maintained a lead of nearly 4,000 votes over her nearest rival, Ram Niwas Rara. She had been leading the constituency for several hours, reflecting her strong support base in the region.
Jindal faced a diverse field of candidates, including BJP's Dr. Kamal Gupta, Congress's Ram Niwas Rara, INLD's Shyam Lal, AAP's Sanjay Satrodia, and JJP's Ravinder Ravi Ahuja. The JJP had formed an alliance with the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), while the INLD partnered with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for this election.
