Arjun Chautala secured victory from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in the Rania Assembly seat of Haryana's Sirsa district with a total of 43,914 votes. He defeated Sarv Mitter of the Indian National Congress, who received 39,723 votes, and independent candidate Ranjit Singh Chautala, who garnered 36,401 votes. Arjun defeated Mitter with a margin of 4,191 votes.
32-year-old Arjun Chautala is the younger son of senior INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala. He won the Rania seat by overcoming challenges from Congress party's Sarv Mitter, the BJP's Shishpal Kamboj, and the sitting MLA, BJP rebel Ranjit Singh Chautala.
The Rania Assembly constituency was one of the 90 constituencies in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. It was a general seat, not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs). Rania was one of the Assembly seats in Haryana's Sirsa district. The main political parties in the constituency included the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the INLD, the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Haryana Lokhit Party, and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). Ranjit Singh Chautala had previously won the Rania constituency in 2019.
The counting of votes began with the postal ballots being counted first. According to the latest trends, the Congress party was leading on 16 seats while the BJP was ahead in four constituencies. Initial reports suggested that INLD's Arjun Chautala was leading in the Rania seat.
By 9 am, trends indicated that Congress had taken a comfortable majority, showing leads in over 70 seats, while the BJP was leading in only 15 seats. The Election Commission of India (ECI) website reported that INLD's Arjun Chautala was in the lead with 8,691 votes.
By 10 am, Arjun Chautala maintained his lead with 11,013 votes, while Congress's Sarv Mitter and BJP's Sheeshpal Kamboj were trailing behind.
At 11:30 am, trends continued to show that INLD's Arjun Chautala was leading with 27,938 votes, while BJP's Sheeshpal Kamboj had secured just 7,314 votes. Overall, the BJP was leading in 50 seats while Congress was ahead in 34.
By 12:20 pm, trends indicated that INLD leader Arjun Chautala was still in the lead with 30,703 votes, facing tough competition from Independent candidate Ranjit Singh Chautala.
According to the ECI website, official counting data at 1 pm for the Rania seat showed Arjun Chautala leading with 36,349 votes. Meanwhile, the BJP was leading with 48 seats out of 90, and Congress was ahead in 36 seats.
As the 13th round of counting continued for the Rania Assembly seat, INLD's Arjun Chautala was still leading with 42,800 votes. Overall, the BJP was leading with 49 seats while Congress remained ahead in 36 seats.
