Haryana Assembly Election updates: Single-phased voting on 90 seats ends

Counting of votes in J&K, Haryana elections on 8th October.

61 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm.

Haryana AAP President Sushil Gupta said, "Today, Haryana is celebrating the festival of democracy. People are voting for a change, they are waiting for a better health and education system in the state... AAP will come as a thrid option in the state."

49.13 per cent of voter turnout was recorded till 3 pm in the single-phased Assembly Elections in Haryana on Saturday. Yamunanagar witnessed the highest turnout at 56.79 per cent while Gurgaon saw the voting per cent of 38.61.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, while speaking about the progress made in Haryana, credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the state’s development over the last decade. He dismissed Congress’s statements, saying, “No one takes seriously what Congress says. For 70 years, they have made false promises. They can win a few elections here and there but will not come to power.”

The Haryana Assembly elections saw a voter turnout of 36.69% by 1 PM on election day. Mewat led with the highest turnout at 42.64%, followed closely by Yamunanagar at 42.08% and Jind at 41.93%. On the other hand, Panchkula registered the lowest voter turnout, recording just 25.89%. Voting is expected to continue throughout the day as citizens cast their ballots across the state.

36.69 per cent voter turnout recorded till 1 PM

Paralympian Pranav Soorma, who won a silver medal for India, exercised his right to vote today in Faridabad. 

Congress leader and wrestler Bajrang Punia, along with his wife Sangeeta Phogat, exercised their right to vote at a polling station in Jhajjar. The couple proudly displayed their inked fingers after casting their ballots. 

Jhajjar: BJP candidate from Badli assembly constituency Om Prakash Dhankar on Saturday expressed optimism about the ongoing election process. Speaking to reporters, Dhankar said, “The polls are going on peacefully, and I pray it goes ahead without any hindrance. I encourage everyone to come out and vote more.”

Dhankar added, “We are getting the blessings of the people, and our preparations in Haryana have been strong. We are confident of victory.”

Sirsa: INLD candidate Abhay Singh Chautala from the Elenabad assembly has expressed confidence of forming a coalition government in Haryana. Talking about his party’s prospects, Chautala said, “A coalition government will be formed in Haryana. INLD and BSP will form the government. We’ll have 30-35 seats.”

Political momentum is increasing in the state ahead of the upcoming elections, with the INLD and BSP aiming to strengthen their alliance and challenge the ruling parties, Chautala said.

BJP candidate from Rewari assembly seat, Laxman Singh Yadav said that he was sure of his victory as people like the system, the BJP created in Haryana.

Former wrestler Mahavir Phogat, uncle of Olympic medalist Vinesh Phogat, Mahavir Phogat expressed his thoughts after casting his vote in Balali for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. He stated, “I voted for the one who works for the poor, farmers, labourers, and traders, and to ensure peace and order in the state.” Phogat also accused Congress leader Deepender Hooda of bringing Vinesh into politics for his own political gain, reflecting on the motivations behind political endorsements in the election.

Ambala: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Ambala Cantt Assembly seat Anil Vij stressed the desire of the people for peace against violence. Talking to the media, he said, “People of Ambala want to live peacefully; They don’t want hooliganism here anymore.” 

Peacefully associated with the lotus symbol representing the BJP, Vij expressed confidence that the party would form a government in Haryana. He also criticised Congress leader Kumari Selja for feeling “suppressed” and disrespected in her party.

Wrestler and BJP leader Yogeshwar Dutt voted in his village and stressed the importance of citizen participation in strengthening democracy. He urged the people to vote broadly to “play their vital role in forming a strong government and help move Haryana forward”. Expressing confidence in BJP’s victory, Dutt predicted, “Kamal will blossom for the third time in Haryana and Naib Singh Saini will be sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time”.

Rohtak: Former Chief Minister of Haryana and Congress leader Bhupender Singh Hooda has called on citizens to exercise their right to vote. He emphasised that the public has made up its mind, stating, “This time, the Congress government is coming. Congress is on its way in, while BJP is on its way out.”

Kurukshetra: In an extraordinary display of enthusiasm for the Haryana Assembly polls, BJP MP Naveen Jindal reached the polling booth on horseback to cast his vote. His horse entry drew attention because it encouraged citizens to participate in the voting process. 

Former wrestler and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Babita Fogat exercised her right to vote at a polling station in Charkhi Dadri town during the Haryana polls today. 

Haryana Assembly elections witnessed a voter turnout of 9.53% as of 9 AM today. The polling process is underway, with voters casting their ballots across various constituencies in the state.

Ranjit Singh Chautala, an independent candidate from Rania Assembly seat and former Haryana minister, exercised his franchise at a polling booth in Sirsa today. 

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has made an impassioned appeal to the people of Haryana, urging them to exercise their right to vote. In a statement, Kejriwal said, "I appeal to all brothers, sisters, elders, and youth of Haryana to cast their votes today. Every single vote will contribute to a brighter future for your family and the development of a better Haryana." 

BJP MP Kiran Choudhary and her daughter Shruti Choudhary, BJP candidate for Tosham Assembly seat in Bhiwani, proudly displayed their inked fingers after casting their votes in the Haryana Assembly elections.

In a scathing attack, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar alleged that the Congress party has been spreading lies to gain public trust, but their attempts have been exposed as the elections draw near. Speaking in Karnal, Haryana, Khattar criticised the Congress for not announcing their chief ministerial candidate yet.

In Maham, an altercation broke out involving BJP MLA Balraj Kundu and Congress candidate Balram Dangi in the village of Madina. Reports indicate that the confrontation escalated, resulting in torn clothes. Local residents intervened to separate the two parties. Former MLA Anand Singh Dangi was also present at the scene during the incident.

Voting at booth 34 in Indergarh village, part of the Maham assembly constituency, commenced with a one-hour delay due to a technical issue with the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

Senior Congress leader Kumari Selja cast her vote in Hisar on Saturday as part of the ongoing Haryana Assembly Election 2024. Selja, a key figure in the Congress party, arrived at the polling booth early to exercise her democratic right. 

CM Nayab Singh Saini cast his vote in Mirzapur. He said that BJP is winning the elections and forming the government for the third time with a big margin.

BJP leader Kuldeep Bishnoi, his son Bhavya Bishnoi, BJP candidate from Adampur seat, and his wife show victory signs after casting their vote.

Former Deputy CM and JJP President Dushyant Chautala cast his vote in Sirsa. He was accompanied by his wife and mother.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati called upon voters across all communities to turn out in large numbers for the Haryana Assembly elections being held today. She appealed to voters to elect the right and capable candidates to ensure the survival and safety of India’s democracy and its humanitarian constitution. Emphasising the importance of voting, she said, “First vote, then have breakfast,” urging voters to prioritise their civic duty.

Olympic shooter and medalist Manu Bhaker exercised her right to vote at a polling station in Jhajjar on Saturday. "Being the youth of this country, it is our responsibility to cast our vote for the most favourable candidate. Small steps lead to big goals... I voted for the first time...," said Bhaker.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the people of Haryana to actively participate in the ongoing Assembly elections. In a message to voters, he encouraged them to be part of this “sacred democratic celebration” and set a new voting record.

“I especially extend my best wishes to the young voters of the state who are casting their vote for the first time,” PM Modi added, urging all eligible citizens to exercise their right and strengthen democracy.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar exercised his right to vote on Saturday as polling for the assembly elections took place. Khattar, who has been an influential leader in the state, arrived at the polling booth early in the day. 

Voting for the Haryana Assembly elections commenced today, with voters across the state heading to the polls to choose their representatives for 90 assembly seats. The elections have drawn a large number of candidates, with 1,031 contenders vying for a seat in the state legislature.
