Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with top police officials and civic authorities in Gujarat's Rajkot city on Friday in connection with the fire incident at a gaming zone that left over 27 persons dead and three injured.

Speaking of the incident, sources mentioned that the meeting which lasted for over 40 minutes was held during the Union Home Minister's brief stopover at the Rajkot International Airport, before heading to Somnath. Further, they added, the meeting, attended by top police and civic officials including the newly appointed Rajkot Police Commissioner Brajesh Kumar Jha and the city's new municipal commissioner DP Desai and district collector Prabhav Joshi, deliberated upon the actions taken following the devastating fire incident at TRP Game Zone which claimed over two dozens innocent lives..

Meanwhile, in the latest update on the case, the Gujarat Police on Thursday arrested four government officials, thus taking the total of arrests being made to nine, which also includes four of the partners of the gaming zone and the manager for operating the premises without holding requisite permissions.

Moreover, it is pertinent to note that the blaze which erupted on May 25 was triggered due to a welding spark at the TRP Game Zone in the city, which gutted the facility in minutes. Several liters of petrol and diesel were also present in the zone at the time of the incident, which exacerbated the situation. Moreover, a new video of the gaming facility, allegedly shot just days before the blaze, also confirms the presence of inflammable items like tyres and foam sheets strewn across the ground floor.

Meanwhile, it is pertinent to note that in the wake of the fire tragedy, the state director-general of police has issued instructions to the commissioners of police and superintendents of police to inspect all the game zones in Gujarat and close those running without fire safety permission.
