Surat: At least 24 workers were injured after a fire broke out at a chemical plant following an explosion in Gujarat's Surat city, said officials on Wednesday.
Basant Pareek, the chief fire officer in charge of Surat, said that the fire started around 2 am at a chemical factory situated in the Sachin GIDC industrial area. The blaze was triggered by an explosion in a large tank due to the leakage of inflammable chemicals stored within.

Pareek further said that all the 24 workers, who suffered injuries, were rushed to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment. "It was not immediately clear how many workers were inside the factory when the incident took place," he said,
"The blast caused a fire in the three-storey building of the factory and engulfed the entire unit," another official said. More than a dozen fire-fighting vehicles were rushed to the spot and efforts were underway to contain the blaze, he said. Further details are awaited.
