Earthquake of magnitude 4.2 hits Gujarat's Mahesana, tremors felt in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar

Earthquake hits Gujarat's Mahesana: The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km, with coordinates 23.71°N latitude and 72.30°E longitude.

Ahmedabad: A massive earthquake of magnitude 4.2 hit parts of Gujarat with tremors felt in major cities including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Mehsana. According to updates from the the Institute of Seismological Research, Gandhinagar, the epicentre of the earthquake lay 13 kilometres south of Patan in Gujarat's Banaskantha district.

The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km, with coordinates 23.71°N latitude and 72.30°E longitude. Even after the earthquake, no report of casualties, injuries or damage to any property has been received so far.

"It's a small to moderate earthquake, typically originating from the Patan area due to its small faults," a senior ISR official was quoted as saying by TOI. 

"Unlike Kutch faults, these are small faults. There is no history of big earthquakes in this region," added the ISR official.

Moreover, the locals in the affected areas reported feeling the ground shake, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The effect of the earthquake was felt in several areas across North Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra-Kutch, including Mehsana, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Ambaji, Disa, Kheralu, Palanpur, Prantij, Talod, Eder, Wadali, Bahucharaji, Satlasana, Harij, Sami and Morbi. Even small desert region of Rapar Taluka in Kutch, including villages like Adesar and Nanda, felt the tremors. Moreover, areas in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Mount Abu also experienced the earthquake’s effects.
