Gujarat AAP president on Monday said the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party will jointly contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections against ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

The alliance will help the opposition to consolidate anti-BJP votes. However, AAP is still an emerging political force in the state and it did not win a single seat in the last two Lok Sabha elections 2014 and 2019.

Main opposition party Congress' condition is also not so good in PM Modi's home state as it drew nill in the last two general elections.

On the other hand, empowered by PM Modi and Amit Shah's popularity, BJP swept all 26 seats in Lok Sabha elections 2014 and 2019.

Meanwhile, AAP did well in the assembly elections held in 2022. Arvind Kejriwal's party won 5 seats opening account in Gujarat with securin 13 per cent vote share.

On July 18, AAP joined the Congress-led 26 parties bloc -  I.N.D.I.A - to fight BJP in upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However the modality of contesting elections was yet to be decided for the newly formed opposition's bloc.
