India TV Fact Check: After the victory in the Rajasthan assembly elections, the BJP has not yet disclosed the Chief Minister's name. However, the name that seems to be at the forefront in the race for the post of CM is that of Vasundhara Raje. During this period, Vasundhara Raje was also called to Delhi. Meanwhile, a photo is circulating on social media, claiming that Raje recently met PM Modi and her name is almost finalized for the Chief Minister's position in Rajasthan. However, upon fact-checking, it was revealed that the photo is several years old.
What is going viral?
A user named 'Maan Deshi Thath' on Facebook shared a photo of the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje. This image was posted on December 7, 2023, from this account. The caption with the photo reads, "Former CM Vasundhara Raje met PM Narendra Modi in Delhi, the name of Rajasthan Chief Minister may be approved after some time, Vasundhara Raje's name is said to be almost final for the post of CM - Source"
Many users are sharing photos on Facebook and X
An X user named @BeingMR_ with the username 'Kanhaiya Kumar' tweeted this photo with the caption, "Look at both their body languages. Repeating, Vasundhara will become CM. 42 of her loyal MLAs have prepared resignations as per her instructions. Either make me CM or get the resignations of these 42, and I'll join Congress."
Similarly, another Facebook user 'Nagour Sandesh' posted the same photo on December 7 with the caption, "Former CM of Rajasthan and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje's meeting with BJP's national president J.P. Nadda and PM Modi in Delhi."
India TV did fact check
We first conducted a reverse search for this viral photo on Google. During this process, we found the same image on the official Facebook account of PMO India on January 6, 2018. The caption accompanying the photo in English states, "Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje Ji met with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi."
The search results also led us to an article on the Pink City Post website. This news was published on January 6, 2018, with the headline - "Rajasthan CM Raje meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi." The article mentions, "Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Saturday and discussed important issues related to the state. She also invited him to lay the foundation stone for the Barmer Oil Refinery. Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the ceremony on January 16."
Vasundhara Raje's tweet was also found in this news, which she had done after meeting PM Modi. In this tweet dated January 6, 2018, she wrote, "Had the opportunity to meet Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi in New Delhi and presented him a small Pichwai painting, which is the traditional art of Nathdwara, Rajasthan, depicting the story of Lord Shrinath Ji and Lord Krishna."
What was found in fact check?
In our investigation, it became clear that the viral photo was from the time when Vasundhara Raje had met PM Modi in 2018 when she was the CM of Rajasthan. The recent claim being made with the photo are incorrect.
