Despite sustaining significant injuries, Glenn Maxwell emerged as the hero in this historic triumph, showcasing a remarkable double century. After this match, a photo of Maxwell went viral on social media, claiming that he is touching the feet of former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. However, upon fact-checking, it was found that this photo is edited.
What is going viral?
A Facebook user named Abhay Sahni shared this photo on November 10, 2023. The caption accompanying the photo reads, "After scoring 201 runs, Glenn Maxwell touched the feet of the cricket god Sachin Tendulkar."

In this image, Sachin Tendulkar is seen on the ground, and the player in the Australian team uniform with "Maxwell" written on it appears to be touching his feet. "Indian Culture" is also written above the photo. This picture is being shared widely by cricket enthusiasts on social media.
India TV investigated
When we searched this viral image using Google Lens, most of the results showed the viral image itself. After that, we searched for keywords related to Sachin Tendulkar's meeting with the Afghanistan and Australian teams. During this search, we came across a news article from India TV, where Sachin Tendulkar met the Afghanistan team before the match with Australia, wearing the same T-shirt. This news was published on November 7, 2023.

After that, we went to Google and started searching for pictures of Sachin Tendulkar meeting the Afghanistan team. During this search, we came across a news article from the Times of India that featured a photo of Sachin that closely resembled the viral image, except for the fact that the player in place of Maxwell was an Afghan player. This news was published on November 6, 2023.

Afterward, when we placed both images side by side, we found that the viral photo and the photo from the Times article showed Sachin Tendulkar wearing the same T-shirt in a similar manner. Additionally, the posture, facial expressions, and body posture of Sachin in both photos were identical. The only difference was the elimination of the Afghan cricketer in the viral photo, replaced with Glenn Maxwell's image.
