The daily soaps on Indian television have a reputation - they set unimaginable records and go through multiple plot twists and generation leaps. There was a time when Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus was the longest running TV show with 1833 episodes, then others followed suit. Audiences gel so well with the story that the characters and situations invariably become a part of the audiences' lives. According to a report, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has become the longest running TV serial with more than 2500 episodes.
On the second spot is Star Plus' Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma with 2310 episodes. Colors TV telecast 2248 episodes of Balika Vadhu, making it the third longest running TV show in India.

The Indian Television is still warming up to Seasons concept that is predominantly running in the West. We also have reality shows and Talk shows like Bigg Boss and KBC that run seasonwise. The first episode of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that airs on Star Plus was premiered on 12 January 2009. The story revolved around a young couple, Naitik (formerly Karan Mehra, now Vishal Singh) and Akshara's (Hina Khan) relationship. Then the plot took a number of twists and turns, and now the couple are playing parents to Naksh (Rohan Mehra) and Naira (Shivangi Joshi).
Akshara bahu (Hina Khan) has become a household name and enjoys unparalleled fame. These days she is busy entertaining India on Bogg Boss 11.
