6th April is being celebrated as the beginning of the Hindu New Year, which is also known as Ugadi or Gudi Padwa. It is celebrated with full fervous and zeal in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. On this day, people of Maharashtra prepare Gudi and hang them on the entrance of their house to bring good luck to their family. Also, they decorate the entrace of their abodes with Rangolis and a Swastike made up of turmeric and vermillion. On this ocassion, TV actress Drashti Dhami, who became a household name after TV serial Geet Huyi Sabse Parayi, gave a performance on a medley of popular Bollywood songs including Pinga, Sapne Me Milti Hai. She wore a pink-coloured traditional Nauvari saree with a Maharashtrian nose pin. She was appearing on the show Gathbanthan as a special guest during the Gudi Padwa episode.
